Taiwan: Golden Horse Asian Movie Award Nominees are Announced

posted Sunday, 28 October 2007

"And the nominees are..."

Think about these awards as a kind of Taiwanese version of the Oscars.

Ang Lee, as usual, is a big name with his new film "Lust Caution," set in 1940s wartime Shanghai and advertised as an "erotic thriller." As for the movie, I haven't seen it, and I don't think I will.  The previews just don't look very interesting to me, and the NC-17 rating hints that it will have too much gratuitous nudity for the sake of gratuitous nudity.  I prefer my thrillers to be pure thrillers with plenty of action.  Then again, I'm the sort of girl who would rather watch "Die Hard" than "Bridget Jones' Diary."

Anyway, this post is dedicated to my movie-mad Sibling.  (One thing we're planning to do when I go home for Christmas to to spend hours and hours watching Asian movies on DVD. Yay!  He does seem to be fixated on Korean films lately, FYI.)
