Snow Melts and the Year's First Crocus Blooms -- Spring Is Finally Here!

FINALLY!

I would simply like to report, dear reader, that spring has finally arrived here in Nerdworld, and not a nanosecond too soon!  It's been a *very* long, cold winter. Today there is a sunny blue sky, and the temperature is 40 degrees.  The snow is melting quickly everywhere, and the air has the smell of mud.   Now usually nobody likes the smell of mud, but right now, mud means (a) melting snow and (b) the hope of flowers soon.

In fact, I am delighted to report that this morning I went for a walk and saw the year's first purple crocuses.  They were blooming bravely along with some golden ones, and they were blooming right next to a last lingering pile of snow.  Maybe I'm a romantic, but I always love seeing the crocuses peek out from the snow.

As you know, I never really think spring is here until two important things happen: I must (a) see the first crocus flower and (b) see the first robin returning from its winter-grounds.  As of today, I can check off the crocus requirement and start hoping and looking for robins.  I will keep you up to date, of course, on robin-watching.  But with the crocuses here, the birds can't be far away.

Hello, spring!

No blogging about serious matters today.  I'm feeling a little frivolous thanks to the lovely weekend weather. It's time for a tiny break from the news and the nerdage.

(Still, I can't resist giving you this too for your Renaissance-artistic viewing pleasure, even though the weather here is still MUCH too cold for dancing around in light frocks and bare feet . . . )
