Here is a reminder of why I'm a fan of John Bolton. He recently gave a speech, during which he delivered my choice for Quote of the Day:
| So let me make a confession. On many occasions, during this and prior Administrations, knowingly and willfully, I have committed acts of conservatism. It gets worse. I enjoyed every minute of it. |
Well, I suppose I'd better confess too -- over the course of this school term, I have knowingly and willfully committed acts of conservatism, libertarianism, politically incorrect utterance, and independent thought and, even worse, done the following sometimes within the classroom and in the presence of undergraduates:
- Criticized Peter Singer. Full stop.
- Declared that throwing more and more money at Africa won't solve its problems (hey, James Shikwati backs me up!) -- we need more trade, less corruption, and more freedom from political oppression
- Said that the United Nations is a corrupt organization that can't be trusted (Oil-for-Food, after all)
- Stated flatly that the college neo-hippies protesting for "livable wages" for workers don't know (a) where money actually comes from, or (b) how economics actually function
- Opined that if in our PC culture we're not supposed to make fun of other people's religions, why is it OK to make fun of conservative Christians and Catholics? It's not fair. (And took a potshot at Dan Brown while doing so, yeah!)
- Rejected the idea that universal condemnation of Cho Seung Hui's murderous shooting spree should be lessened in any way whatsoever because he was reportedly bullied in school...and argued for personal responsibility
- Demanded to know if Harry Reid really wants to tell the American people that it lost to Al Qaeda in Iraq
- Criticized wild-eyed Greenies
Any other sins of mine you can think of?
