It's another gray, cold day in Cloudcuckooland, which makes me miss the huge blue sky and in-your-face summer heat of the Lone Star State. Which reminds me . . .
Here's the latest from my old stomping grounds in Austin. The word is that practically the whole city's busy celebrating Lance Armstrong's victory -- Lance, who's probably Austin's most famous resident in recent memory. Seems Dubya's not the only Texan who'd like to tell Lance he's "awesome." I hear that huge yellow banners are plastered on virtually every bike shop in town, and that the fans are stampeding to buy commemorative T-shirts. The shirts are all lemon yellow, naturally, and since it's Texas and there's a humorous saying that "it ain't braggin' if it's true," the shirts cheerfully proclaim:
IN LANCE WE TRUST
TEXAS 6
FRANCE 0
Just the sort of Texan pride and humor I miss up here! I wonder if I shouldn't send the Sibling to get me one of those shirts . . .!
(Of course, you don't have to have a Lance T-shirt to join the fight against cancer -- go wear yellow!)
