Nerd News: President of Tulane Escaped Flooded Ivory Tower with MacGyver-like Tactics

posted Wednesday, 5 October 2005

A few days ago, I posted on the relative uselessness of university presidents.

I retract a tiny portion of that after reading this news story about Tulane president Scott Cowen, who suddenly turned into MacGyver to escape Hurricane Katrina's flooding of his campus -- he managed to escape with an old motorboat and a hot-wired golf cart.  Sounds like President Cowen has some useful knowledge in the real world after all!
