German Company Bans Complaining

posted Thursday, 19 January 2006

I am not making this up!

A German company has actually banned complaining in the office.  Employees can be dismissed -- sacked -- fired -- if they are caught whining!  Two employees have already been fired.

I always knew Europe had too many rules and regulations.  Usually I think of it as too much government bureaucracy.  But this office ban is getting ridiculous.  They even have their own "be happy" website.  Well, at least this is a private enterprise.  But can you imagine the government doing this?  "Be happy or we will fine you!" is a thought that springs to mind. Sheesh!

I just hope nobody bans grad students from complaining.  If that ever happens, I will be forced to close this blog!

This entire news story also reminds me of an old joke: if office morale is bad, post a sign that proclaims:

"Floggings will continue until morale improves."
