EU Policy: "Let Them Eat Cake!"

posted Wednesday, 10 May 2006

I'll let you ponder the implications of cake-eating, politics, Europe, Marie Antoinette, and elite attitudes toward the supposedly insignificant "masses."

But for today I'll simply say: Bring on the cake!  The European Union finally shows that it has at least one good quality: great pastries.  The slogan made me laugh: "Europe.  Be seduced."

By the way, here are the recipes that went with the cake campaign.  I hardly know which one to try making first!  I know: I'll try them ALL. *wink*  (Hey, gentle reader, which one do you suggest?)

The EU may not have any economic energy, demographic sense, or logical governance, but it does have good cake!  Deeeeeeeeeeeeeelicious.  Bad for your health in the long term, but deeeeeeeeeeeeeeeelicious in the moment!  Mmmmmmmmmmmmmmm . . .

UPDATE: I wonder if cake would be a good analogy for EU.  Good-looking, attractive, elegant, and full of sweetness and beauty, but ultimately holding no actual nutritional value.  Hm.
